What is Goshin-Do?
Goshin-Do may be interpreted as self-defense (Japanese Goshin).
It is a new form, a new way of training Shotokan Karate-Do & self-defense.
The practice of Goshin-Do gives us means to apply & understand Karate-Do techniques from a new perspective.
Goshin-Do is based on Sensei Shirai’s personal research and experience. After many years of practice, he has prepared and developped a program that allows a systematic approach to the subject of self-defense.
Specifically for this purpose Sensei Shirai has created a series of kata, in which the basic techniques are summarised.
The practice of Goshin-Do allows us an insight into his approach to Karate-Do.
The concept of Goshin is always present in Shotokan Karate-Do as Martial Arts are also about self-defense. Specific Goshin-Do training starts from Purple Belt level in order to ensure that students already an understanding of basics.
In order to support us in our study, Sensei Claudio Ceruti from Italy, 5th dan Shotokan & Goshin-Do Hanshi (Hanshi is the highest instructor's level in Goshin-Do) comes to Dublin twice a year. Sensei Ceruti is a close student of Sensei Shirai & teaches Goshin-Do all around Italy & the rest of Europe (Spain, UK & Scotland, Germany, Poland).
