Sensei Hiroshi Shirai
Sensei Shirai was born on 31st July 1937 in Nagasaki, Japan and started Karate in 1956 in Komazawa University.
His instructors there were Sensei(s) Nishiyama & Tsujima. He received his Shodan in 1957.
He then attended the JKA Instructors's course from 1960 to 1962 where Sensei(s) Nakayama, Nishiyama, Kase & Sugiura where his instructors. During this course Sensei Kase had a great influence on him.
He won the Japan Championships in 1962.

Sensei Shirai became a 9th Dan in 1999. He is the head of the World Shotokan Institute (WSI). Based in Italy since 1965, he directs courses in various countries regularly. He has developed a new standard of Karate-Do particularly in bunkai for Shotokan kata.
